What's Vanilla?

For its Vanilla fragrance, Olibanum brand has chosen a bourbon vanilla absolute, with woody and smoky aromas more faithful to the smell of the "sheath".

Revered by the Totonacs, a Native American people, as a symbol of invincible love, vanilla owes its name to a corruption of the word "vagina" (whose meaning is well known) into "vaina".

The conquistadors who introduced it to Europe found that it resembled a "sword sheath" - a comparison that, of course, has nothing to do with the aphrodisiac qualities that were attributed to it at the time. If its scent is more reminiscent of beige and pastry cream than of 17th-century frolics, it is because the vanilla we know in aromas and perfumes is in reality vanillin, its main odorous compound.
