The fragrance opens like a cork popping: the rosé champagne accord releases fine, lively bubbles, sharpened by a bright stroke of lemon. Juicy pear slips in a luminous sweetness that rounds off the fizz at once.

The heart reveals the cocoa, rich and textured, closer to a cracked bean than to melted chocolate. Magnolia wraps it in a creamy, faintly lemony floral clarity that lends it an unexpected elegance and keeps it well away from dessert.

In the base, vanilla lingers on the skin, warm and addictive, backed by the almond-like roundness of tonka bean. Myrrh and Siam benzoin add a resinous, balsamic depth, for a velvety trail that leaves behind the quiet memory of a conversation.

Kokoa Bang was born at a café table, where Michael Partouche, founder and artistic director of Room 1015, and perfumer Jérôme Di Marino were sharing a dessert. Out of that exchange came the wish for a cocoa freed from its pastry-shop habits. "It's not a gourmand. It's an atmosphere," says Michael Partouche.

Indeed Kokoa Bang takes cocoa against the grain. Rather than smelling like dessert, it comes across as elegant, textured and surprisingly modern: all the pleasure of chocolate, without the weight of sugar. The sparkle of rosé champagne and the freshness of pear give it a lightness of spirit one does not expect from a chocolate fragrance.
