History of the Antipodes brand

• Antipodes was founded in 2006 by Wellington native Elizabeth Barbalich, a scientist who, beyond the safety and healthiness of the beauty products she wanted to offer, never lost sight of the importance of scientifically validating the effectiveness of her organic and natural cosmetics.
  
  The New Zealander had the desire to create high quality natural cosmetics to accompany women in their daily lives, scientifically validated and manufactured in a sustainable development approach.

• While the founder of Antipodes says she is influenced by fashion and music (to which she is particularly exposed through her three teenage children), she is most inspired by her invigorating walks through the enchanting forests surrounding her hometown of Wellington.
  
  The beauty of the Tui birds nesting in the trees of Pohutukawa just outside her office window are the inspiration for her unique products, which reflect this island at the end of the world.
  
  New Zealand is an exotic land of the antipodes with a unique abundance of nature. Elizabeth Barbalich carefully selects bioactive extracts from sustainably grown indigenous plants to create Antipodes skincare products that are scientifically and clinically proven to work.

  In addition, most Antipodes beauty products are certified organic and those that are not, are 98 to 100% natural.
  
  Certified organic products are certified by the independent government body AsureQuality Ltd, a 'food safety and biosecurity' label in the southern hemisphere that upholds strict standards worldwide.
  
  Antipodes is certified by the Vegetarian Society, the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world. No animal testing is carried out with the brand's products and there is no cross-contamination during the production process. As such, the products are free from any animal ingredients resulting from slaughter and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Only Manuka honey is used by the brand as it is obtained without violence.
